The duo marks the reencounter and collaboration of the two friends, musicians and composers.
The bass player Rogerio Botter Maio living in São Paulo, Brazil and the Italian pianist Piergiorgio Pirro, expert on Brazilian music celebrate in this concert their great musical connexion.
They will perform a mixed repertoire of Rogério’s five released cds as well as arrangements written by Botter Maio for three Brazilian standards (Tom Jobim Baden Powell among others).
ROGERIO BOTTER MAIO – acoustic and electric bass player, composer, arranger and producer.
He studied in Austria at the Hochschule für Musik in Graz in both jazz and classical programs. In ‘89, living in Rome, Italy, he played the role of a musician in the movie "God Father III".
He was awarded a scholarship for the Berklee College of Music moving to Boston in ‘91. Living in New York City from ’92 to ‘97 he worked with Paquito d'Rivera, Lionel Hampton, Cláudio Roditi, Manfredo Fest, Leny Andrade among others.
He has recorded with Gerry Mulligan & Jane Duboc, Dom Salvador, Hendrik Meurkens and Naná Vasconcelos.
With his BraSilian World 4tet Rogerio has performed at Indonesia Open Jazz Festival besides in many European countries. As a composer, arranger and producer released five independent Cds. He has extensively presented his Brazilian Music workshop in several countries (USA, Italy, Spain, Holland, Indonesia and Portugal).
In São Paulo, where he resides, Rogério leads several different projects and is at the moment producing his sixth CD.
PIERGIORGIO PIRRO – pianist and accordionist, performs and composes in the domains of jazz and Brazilian music.
He studied classical piano and composition at the Conservatory of Music “U. Giordano” in Foggia (Italy) and at the Conservatory of Music “Santa Cecilia” in Rome. He obtained a Master Degree in Jazz Piano magna cum laude from the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel. He attended several jazz workshops, and studied with many international jazz players. He is winner of the Siena Jazz Scholarship in 2008.
His discography includes two albums as co-leader: Monome (Konnex Records, 2012), and Early (Improvvisatore Involontario, 2015). He had a long collaboration with the Jazz Wide festival in Pisa (now Pisa Jazz), that led to the birth of a large impro/jazz ensemble, Wide Orchestra, of which Pirro has been musical director from 2013 until 2015.
In 2016 he did a 3 months residency at JZ Club Hangzhou (China) with Nicola Lancerotti and The Brussels Quintet, and toured in Changzhou, Suzhou, Shanghai and Beijing. Another 3 months residency in the same club followed in 2018. He resides in Brussels, Belgium where he leads his own quintet “Scintilla” and participates in many bands as a sideman.
